"Review: Feng Shui Love"
December 22, 2009

My Synopsis…

Leo, Libra, Cancer… What’s your sign?
In Feng Shui Love, by Joni Davis & Lisa Hyatt we meet Lily and Brook, two friends who learn what it’s like to be single in a fast paced world. They try everything from speed dating to an overnight singles campout to find Mr. Right.

Lily’s mother a convert to the Chinese system of Feng Shui convinces the girls that if they re-organize the furniture and put in an order to the universe, they’ll get just what they ask for. But is what they ask for, what they really want? Can an idea sometimes blind you to what’s right under your nose…

My Thoughts…
I enjoyed this book a lot. Once I started reading I was hooked. Davis & Hyatt use just enough humor to make us all laugh at situations we’ve either been in or can see ourselves getting into.
I liked the way Lily’s relationship with each of the other characters changes throughout the story. From her deep friendship with Brook to her new and scary relationship with her father, Walter. We see Lily grow and learn. Her relationship with Will is classic. She finds out that love may not come from where you expect it… Isn’t that the truth!!
I have to give this one 4 out of 5 apples from my book bag!

Examiner.com review of Feng Shui Love

Examiner.com's Richmond Books Examiner Margaret Oleksa recently reviewed Feng Shui Love! Check out all the great things she has to say about our novel below.

"Feng Shui Love by Joni Davis and Lisa Hyatt review – a new twist on romantic comedy"

December 31, 2009

Are you looking for love in all the wrong places? Are the stars not aligned for health and prosperity? Perhaps applying feng shui will help. In Joni Davis and Lisa Hyatt’s novel Feng Shui Love, Lily and Brook are friends who are both suffering from failed relationships. Are their problems a result of an adulterous husband? Irreconcilable differences? Lily’s mother, Lauraine, cites the reason as bad energy trapped in their living spaces. Lauraine brings a feng shui expert to transform the “love corner” and the rest of the New York apartment into a peaceful and harmonious space.

The results were immediate. While skeptical at first, it became hard to ignore the instant improvement to their love lives and careers. Lily and Brook each wrote the ideal love on a paper, attached it to a balloon and then released to the heavens. But be careful what you wish for. Lily and Brook’s wishes bring new suitors, but will they find their true feng shui love? What is feng shui? From Wikipedia:

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to use the laws of both Heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive qi. The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (simplified Chinese: ??; traditional Chinese: ??; pinyin: k?nyú; literally: Tao of heaven and earth).

The term feng shui literally translates as "wind-water" in English.”

Feng shui is all about energy, and your home is composed of endless energy fields. Ideally, the home should undergo a thorough cleaning (clutter clearing), followed by purifying space clearing. Colors and arranging of items in the right space help contribute to the right energy.

Feng Shui Love is a humorous tail of finding ones true self and the perfect mate. The high school friends become school-girl giddy in their pursuits. Who would think straightening a corner of a room could change your life? Sit back and enjoy reading this fun book.

Word of caution: reading this may make you want to learn more about feng shui, which may induce a cleaning spree and rearranging of your living room. Are you making resolutions for better relationships, career and finances? Feng shui may become part of your action plan!

A Feng Shui Thanksgiving!

Check out this Examiner.com article by Elliott Crane using Feng Shui Love to have a perfectly feng shui-ed Thanksgiving!

"Feng Shui Thanksgiving: A novel idea" by Elliott Crane, Richmond Interior Decorating Examiner, November 24, 2009

Author’s Joni Davis & Lisa Hyatt give the phrase “Home is where the heart is” a new meaning in their hilarious new book Feng Shui Love. The novel co-written by Richmond author Joni Davis and Lisa Hyatt a resident of the Outer Banks of North Carolina is a story about true love, friendship and feng shui of course. Check out V Magazine for women’s recent review of the novel on their web site. Home decorating can be a spiritual exercise if it is seen as such.

Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art and science centered around balancing energies. It is a 3000 year old tradition. The words Feng Shui mean “wind-water”
According to About.com “one of the basic principles of feng shui is the principle of five elements, which are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. These feng shui elements interact between themselves in certain ways, generally defined as the Productive and Destructive cycles. Each feng shui element is represented by a specific color, and color is the easiest way to use the five elements principle to bring more harmony into your space with feng shui.”

Jen Savedge says that Feng Shui is a good way “to ensure a warm, happy and positive environment for you and your guests.” Though it was developed in China these principals can still be used to bring balance and peace to Thanksgiving decorum and the rest of the year as well.
“Visualization and intention are key to attaining results of a desired goal. Intention in Feng Shui is everything. I relate using intention in Feng Shui to the law of physics. Energy will follow what you focus on.” Says Feng Shui Tips and Decorating Products
